2017 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women.
Tallinn, Estonia, January 25, 2017. On Wednesday night, Allianz MTV STUTTGART defeated KOHILA VC 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-14) in their re-match of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women 16th Finals. The first match played two weeks ago in Germany ended with the same score, so STUTTGART are through to the next stage of the competition.
In the second set of the re-match, KOHILA VC put up a real fight. The German team grabbed a five-point lead but the home side answered with a fantastic run sparked with good service from their opposite hitter, Kertu Laak. KOHILA VC had a 12-9 and 16-14 edge but after that, the visitors took the lead for good.
“I am a little bit disappointed about the second set. We proved that if we have good reception, we can play against them but our own mistakes did not let us put up a fight till the end,” KOHILA VC head coach Peeter Vahtra commented.
The German team head coach Guillermo Naranjo Hernández was happy that his players managed to win the game in three sets because on Sunday they will play the German Cup final against SSC Palmberg SCHWERIN. “We were focussed and I had the chance to test different rotations and gave rest to some players. KOHILA VC has two very good servers – Julija Mõnnakmäe and Kertu Laak – and we struggled a bit with them,” he said.
For Allianz MTV STUTTGART, the next European game is against Agel PROSTEJOV, whereas the European campaign has ended for KOHILA VC. “Our dream was to play at least six games and we managed to do this,” Vahtra said.
This season KOHILA VC became the first ever women’s club from Estonia to play in the CEV Volleyball Champions League. It was a great success when they defeated Montenegro’s Luka BAR 3-1 and 3-2 in the first round of the competition. After that they played an impressive match against Vizura BEOGRAD where they managed to put a lot of pressure on the Serbian rising Volleyball stars, but eventually the Balkan team moved on to the next round courtesy of 3-2 and 3-0 victories.
